Jeff Bezos’ Space Flight is an Important Reminder of America’s Economic Freedom, Monica Crowley Argues This is What Makes America Great
I have been closely following the race to space between Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson. There was something very thrilling about watching these two battle it out to be the first to make it to space as a civilian. Bezos was not the only one aboard that rocket, there were other individuals on board that were not astronauts. A lot of people criticized this flight into space. However, Monica Crowley had a very different opinion regarding this historical achievement and this reader has to agree with her logic.
After hearing about all the negative comments about Bezos’ flight to space, Crowley decided to write a thoughtful piece on TheHill.com about how this space flight is an important reminder that, “American economic freedom has been, and continues to be, the single most important driver of human progress in history. It is the reason the United States has been the most prosperous nation, ever.”
Space travel has inspired Americans since 1969 when America was the first country to land humans on the moon successfully. As we raced against the Russians to accomplish this amazing feat, Americans everywhere realized how important the moon landing was to prove our power and strength as a nation. It was proof of our ingenious nature and drive to be the best. This type of attitude is what makes America so great and it also propels us to be the strongest nation in the world.
The reason why Bezos taking flight was so critical is because this precious economic strength that we have had for decades is currently being threatened. Socialism from within is a huge threat to our economic strength. Crowley writes in her piece that, “The threats to our liberty are everywhere and accelerating fast: the expanding, cozy alliance between state and corporate interests we’re witnessing is the textbook definition of fascism, while Marxist principles are taking hold, from radical wealth redistribution to educational indoctrination to cultural warfare in the silencing of dissent and the erasure of history.”
Bezos has humble beginnings and first ran Amazon out of a garage. His idea to sell books online at the dawn of the internet age was one that was mocked originally. Huge bookstores like Barnes and Noble dominated during this time. Bezos persisted and created an empire that provides anything a person could possibly want with a simple click of a button. His drive, ingenuity and ability to create a behemoth like Amazon is what makes America such a strong nation.
The fact that he was able to amass such wealth and then use that wealth to take a trip that most people thought would be impossible for the average person is an impressive feat. This was proof that anyone can make it big in America. It isn’t something that should be criticized but instead, it should be viewed as an aspiration story. Just like the original moon landing, Bezos going to space should inspire the rest of America. It is proof that anyone can make it in America.
We should be applauding his efforts. Sure, there are downfalls to a capitalistic society. It’s not a perfect system but it is a system that allows for the freedom to create something from nothing. It allows for a shining future for anyone looking to start a business in America. It proves that anyone can achieve space flight when they put their mind to it. This is something that as Americans, we can be proud of. I, for one am proud that America is truly the land of opportunity.
